Well, Palin definitely has her talking points down… to wit:

  • we need to free ourselves from the tyranny of oil by drilling more oil wells – and since I’m from Alaska I know that we’ve got PLENTY of it.
  • Soundbyte: Some politicians promote their careers with change. Some promote change with their careers.
  • We chose the right man because the Senate majority leaders can’t stand him.
  • Name off each of her adorable kids.
  • Take the maverick out of the Senate and put him in the White House.
  • The American Presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery.
  • It’s a dangerous world. It’s not just a community and it doesn’t need an organizer.
  • There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you.
  • My oldest son Track is going off to war next week.
  • Equate McCain with heroes who have served in war.
  • The journey of upright and honorable man – the kind of man whose name you will find on war memorials in small towns all around the country except he’s one of the ones who came home.

She’s pretty (and I’ve had to do my share of slapping down male friends whose sole comment on Palin’s qualifications for the job is ‘I’d do her!’ Well.. at least one was far more graphic than that…) and personable, and I expect lots of comparisons between her manner on the podium and Hillary’s. There were lots of shots of her husband in the audience holding their infant child in his lap. She knows when to pause for applause, and nod and smile. She has a great speechwriter – if it was her, kudos for knowing exactly where to hit the emotions. This was a momma who can turn into momma bear, a daughter concerned about her parents who just bought a service station and how a huge tax burden will affect them, a mother who is sending a son off to war, who is ready to step up and support our boys the way they deserve to be supported, a grandmother-to-be who is proud of her daughter for ‘doing the right thing’ after doing the wrong thing

Palin and her husband bring to the McCain campaign the youthful, pretty, All-American family photo ops that McCain REALLY needs after reports that he called his wife a cunt in front of reporters and hung out with strippers Have we forgotten those things? I haven’t. Nor will I forget that she opposes reproductive rights supports teaching creationism alongside evolution but wouldn’t push to have it added to the curriculum – is under investigation for ethics violations in Alaska. This is not a woman that I want in office – not in ANY office.
